AKWAABA FRIENDS! (WELCOME!)

Akwaaba is the word for “welcome” in the Twi language of West Africa.

I want to welcome you to this ministry I call The Whole Christian Life. You’re either coming to this through the website itself, TheWholeChristianLife.org, or through one of the various social media platforms. If you’re wondering why this ministry is named as it is; firstly, it is because I want to offer an expansive view of what a life lived in humble submission to Christ looks like. Many ministries will specialize in one discipline or content area, but I, like many of you, am constantly asking questions about a broad range of subjects as they relate to the Christian faith. I want to remain flexible enough to do that.

Secondly, I see the Christian life as being dynamic and nuanced in its orientation. That is to say, while glorifying Jesus as LORD is our ultimate end as Christians (Is. 43:7, Rom. 12:1, 1 Cor. 10:31, Phil. 2:9-11), the ways in which we are called to do that are not singular and rigid, but diverse and with depth. One concept that helps me to understand this, I have found, is what Graham Cole calls the “Three Commissions Lifestyle.” The three commissions he is referring to are the Creation Commission, Great Commission, and Moral Commission.

In short, what these refer to are the following roles: being fruitful, multiplying, and filling the Earth, and exercising dominion (Gen. 1:26-28); going out and making disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:18-20); and finally, living holy lives that honor God (1 Pet. 1:15-16). If you would like to hear a more in depth explanation of these then please read the next blog.

Graham Cole says that these three commissions form the framework of “how Christians are to live in between the cross and the coming again of Christ.” As we explore the different ways that these three commissions inform our Christian lives, we at the Whole Christian Life want to proclaim the Gospel clearly, provide sound Biblical teaching that edifies the Church, and be a source of moral discernment in an age of moral confusion.

To do this we will upload short-educational videos on a variety of Biblical and cultural topics, longer format podcasts and interviews with friends, family, and guests, and publish digital-print articles that you can find at our site. If you want to contact us or have questions, then please send us an email to general@thewholechristianlife.org.

Thank you for your time and God bless
